GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a tax added to the price of most goods and services, including imports. -[source: https://www.ird.govt.nz/gst]
As of writing the business as a sole trader is just 11 months old since we launched our beta website. A few months ago we’ve been thinking to register GST.
Weighing the pros and cons we finally decided to register. The process of registering GST here in New Zealand is just so easy. Just did it online inside my IRD account. On 09 March 2021 IRD approved our GST application.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN to OUR CLIENTS?
To our valued clients with recurring payment with us, we will add GST (15%) to your Invoice.
We already updated our list of services on our website to make sure that our future clients are aware about the 15% GST. Clients who registered GST for their business can claim the GST back.
WHEN TO REGISTER FOR GST?
Starting a business doesn’t mean you have to register a GST.
You need to register GST if you carry out a taxable activity and your turnover was at least $60,000 in the last 12 months, or you expect it will be at least $60,000 in the next 12 months.
